On the day of the Praya murder I was employed in the office of hears. Reiss & Co. About 11 50 a.m. on that

The

day I was in the office. I heard a report cutside and I went out on to the verandah to see what it was.

verandah overlooked statue Square. I looked out towards the Praya and I saw a ricksha opposite the new pier hoard- ing.

It had stopped and there was a man lying huddled

accres the shafts. I then saw a lan, a Chinalan in a

dark blue suit, running from the Praya towards the queen's

in

Statue. He ran in the roadway and round the statue,

close to it, and then on the direction of the bank. I

was standing on the ledge of the verandah to get a better

view. I saw him running towards the bank for th-

greater portion of the road between the statue and the

bank, but when he got near Des Voeux Road, I could not see him any longerŕbecause of the large pillar of the verandah

on my right.

As the man passed the statue there was a European waving a stick and shouting and running after him. When

I first saw the Turopean he was at the north entrance to

the circle surrounding the queen's statue, and the running

Ghinaman was at the south entrance to the circle.

I saw the Chinaman being pursued by many people,

about 20 in all.

Later I saw a man being brought back from the direc-

tion of the bank.

I do not remember whether the Chinaman ran on the path

way or in the road after passing the queen's statue.

The above statement was taken on 22. 3. 22.
