Hoh. Dr. Claud Severn, C.M.G.

Colonial Secretary

Hongkong, 7th April, 1921.

Sir,

In amplification of my evidence given before the Committee of the Legislative Council to consider the report of the Far Eastern Commission of the National Council for Combating Benereal Diseases (N.C.C.V.D.) The names of the members who resigned and who subsequently formed the Society for the Prevention of Venereal disease (S,P.V.D.) are:

Lord Willoughby de Broke Sir Bryan Donkin

Sir. Arbuthnot Lane Sir James Crighton-Browne

R. A. Lyster

Sir Frederick Mott

Sir Archdall Reid

Ellen Askwith Jane Lorimer Hawthorne

C. V. Saleeby

Eric Pritchard

J. H. Sequeira

and

H. Wansey Bayly.

The Society which they founded was created to fill

in the gap in the propaganda of the N.C.C.V.D. left by the opposition of the latter society to instruction of the public in the prevention of venereal disease by means of immediate self-disinfection. They freely acknowledge that this is only one of many methods of combating venereal disease but they consider it to be an extremely important and valuable one. They state that this method was not only neglected but actively opposed by the N.C.C.V.D. and their work is not in opposition but complementary to that of the latter body.

They definitely affim and are prepared to bring

conclusive evidence as to:
