5. Copies of the recently issued "Handbook on Conditions and Cost of Living in Hongkong" are enclosed, on pages 10 to 12 of which some detailed information as to the cost of living is to be found. An independent estimate is also given in the enclosed extract from the Hongkong Daily Press of 22nd August, 1921.

The necessary expenses of Europeans living in Hongkong vary however so greatly according to family circumstances and social position that any general state- ment has to be accepted with caution and is liable to be misleading when applied to particular cases.
