Dear Fiddian,

2nd June, 1923.

This is not your job but Bridges is away and

I do not know to whom to write.

The Admiralty have a certain number of Home

Yard workmen serving at Hong Kong Dockyard. The Wage8

of these men are assessed and paid in dollars and, at

the present time, are fixed at 50% above pre-war or

permanent emoluments. This arrangement corresponds,

I believe, with that applicable to certain of the local

Colonial people, and I should be glad to know whether, on

*

a comparison with the rates payable to Colonial Officers,

we should be safe in sanctioning an extension of the

present arrangements until the end of the calendar year.

A. Fiddian, Esq.,

Colonial Office,

Downing Street

S.7.1.

Yours sincerely,

HParker
