The branded servant was taken at once out of the possession of her mistress,
and lodged in the Po Leung Kuk.
Her mother
was communicated with, and the girl was handed
back to her.
Case No. 9.
In view of the annexed extract
from a report by the Acting Secretary for Chinese Affairs the description of
Lieutenant Commander Haslewood's Chinese
correspondent as thoroughly trustworthy
appears to be open to question.

and general character, and not a definite case of ill-treatment,

and has no bearing on the "mui tsai" customin Hong
Kong.

the children concerned being the sons of the defendants.

The question of children working
in factories is also a separate one, and is being investigated by a commission appointed by the Governor
