The woman Lai Leung Shi who was in fact the girl's own mother was sentenced to six weeks' gaol for Conspiracy to defraud; the girl after her mother's release elected to return to her, and was allowed to do so..

Case No. 3.

The branded servant was taken at once out of the possession of her mistress,

and lodged in the Po Leung Kuk.

Her mother

was communicated with, and the girl was handed

back to her.

Case No. 9.

In view of the annexed extract

from a report by the Acting Secretary for Chinese Affairs the description of

Lieutenant Commander Haslewood's Chinese

correspondent as thoroughly trustworthy

appears to be open to question.
