It was agreed that the Clearing office should write a semi- official letter to M. Alphand asking whether in view of the fact that in a similar case even of vested property under British law the rights of a French logates would be recognised the French Government would agree to the release of the property to the British legatoos.
It should also be pointed out that during the War the Public Trustee on behalf of the British legate had paid a large sum of money for rent and upkeep and that it would be very unreasonable that they should both loss the property and pay the coat of upkeep.
It was agreed that the money should be reloased.
It was decided that notwithstanding the Austrian case referred to in Colonel Thompson's letter to Mr. Dan Williams the decision regarding Mrs. Gunter's case on the 15th August should stand.
It was agreed that in any case where the German enquired after his property which had been commandeered under the Defence of the Realm Regulations an endeavour should be made to ascertain from the responsible authority what had happened to the property and whether it still existed, If it still existed it should be recovered by the Publio Trustee and accounted for to the Germans.
It was decided that the Oustodian for Scotland should be authorised to return the four Sextants to the estimated value of £12.10.0.
It was agreed that this oase clearly came within the decision of Mr. Justice P.0.Lawrence in the Houston Chamberlayne caso and that there were no facts which would Justify release as an act of grace.
