HISS I. SCOTT MURRAY.

This applicant at first sight is not impressive.
She is short, only moderately good-looking, and slightly
common-place looking. But she has a particularly eager
and enthusiastic manner; almost fervent, she seems to be
full of intellectual curiosity, with something of the spirit
of adventure in her, Her intellectual acquirements are good; and she has had adequate professional experience of a good
kind.
If her enthusiasm of manner is translated into enerEY
of action, she is sure to do well,
If I had been taking the interview alone, I should
have hesitated to make a strong recommendation in her favour,
owing to her lack of personal distinction. But Mr. Taner
is perfectly satisfied with her, and holds that she is precise-
ly the kind of lady whom they want in Hong Kong. He knows the
requirements. He rates her very much higher than the applicants
whom he had recently seen further south, and holds that she
should be accepted at once.
