It, however, appears unlikely that any action would be taken unless recommended from home. In support of the Recommendations made by the Attorney-General and the Harbour Master one would like to quote Colombo where the trade conditions do not seem to have suffered and more rigid regulations than those recommended for Hong Kong are already in force and are effective.*

ATTITUDE OF EUROPEAN RESIDENTS.

The Chamber of Commerce held a special meeting to confer with the Commissioners, at which all the Shipping firme were represented. They asked them

to assist: -

(1) By circulating invitations to all their employés to shewings of the films,

To convene a meeting themselves of all their employés for Dr. Hallam to address,

(3)

To provide free treatment for venereal Disease for all their employés,

(4)

To support active measures to reduce the incidence of Venereal Disease in the Mercantile Marine.

The Chamber of Commerce agreed to the first two points, and undertook to consider the other two favourably.

The European men's meeting was held on the premises of the Chamber of Commerce and was very well attended.
