now Chinese women with British and American qualifications available.

Chinese pispensaries. We are of the opinion that it would be

desirable later to extend the free treatment facilities by means of

clinics in the more congested areas of the town. As we feel it is

important to retain the confidence already secured by the Chinese

Dispensaties in Teatern medecine, we would suggest their organisation

should be so extended and adapted to include such additional facili-

ties as may be required.

Prisons. At the present time advanced and sezárás stages of

venereal disease among prisoners are treated in the Prison Hospital,

but facilities are not available for the modern methods of treatment.

We understand that even under ordinary examinations one of two capes

of venereal disease are found in each daily batch of from 10 to 12

prisoners, but that even for these, staff and materials were not

available for modern treatment.

We recommend that arrangements should be made by which all prino r.

-ers both men and women, should receive early diagnosis and modern

treatment. The arrangements could be placed in the hands of the

venereal disease specialist on the staff of the Civil Medical Depart-

ment. Jor those who have not completed treatment on the expiry of

their sentence arrangements should be made for them to continue treat-

ment at one of the hospitals.

SEAFARING POPULATION.

We understand from the seafaring organisations that the high

incidence of venereal disease in the seafaring population is largely

due to their peculiar conditions of life, and to their removal frTO M

all home environment, with but little pro vision in the form of lodging

ad como dation and wholemme recreation at the various seaports, The

Fastern parts are cited as specially dangerous from the public health

standpoint.
