Visteria and Kowloon Proposed resumption of Military Establish 180 Ate by Colonial Government.
Vith rďa anos to your letter 0.8.9650 dated 26th Kovember, 1980, I am commended by the Army Connoll_to say that they are prepared to arɔress their general göngurrones in the broad outlines of the scheme as put forward by you.
·
As regards the future Establishment of the garrison of Hong Kong the council are not yet in a position të give any definite indication. They are however of opinion that the proposals for redistribu ti on should be framed so as to be suited to the present garrison and also to give fasilities for expansion should the garrison be lægely inaremed. In view of the unwillingness of the Governmen of India to allow Indian troops to serve outside India it is possible that the future garrison my be largely British.
3.
Taking the scheme in detail, the Council consider that there is no objestion from a military point of view to plasing the British battalion as Gun cầub Hill and King's Park. The lay-out should however be so arranged as to allow of a second British battalion being located at King's Park should the garrison be ingrossed. The removal of the Royal Garrison artillery now in Vietoria Barraoke to Belohere is also conmrred in.
4.
As regards the native troops, it is considered that the Whitfield site am be surrendered, and the Battalion and Pask Battery moved to the shatin Jass area, but the location there of the Hong Zong Singapere Coast Artillery should be further considered locally and reported
as it is not certain whether from a training and defence 'ut of view they sould not be more advantageously plased
