I have the honour to acknowledg
the receipt of your despatch of the
1st November 1920 No.341 regarding the
assessment for military contribution
of rents derived from Government building
and to transmit to you a copy of the reply
from the War Office containing the
observations of the Army Council on the proposals mentioned in your despatch.
2. The question of the method adopted in the Straits Settlements in assessing revenue for purposes of military contribution was the subject of correspondence, in the years prior to the outbreak of the war, between the War Office, the Treasury and the Colonial Office; and the Earl of Crewe had agreed to accept the point of view of the Army Council and the Treasury in the matter of the assessment of the receipts
