I am directed by the Board of Trade to transmit herewith, for the information of Mr. Secretary Churchill, copies of the following documents and enclosures:-
(1) Application from Messrs. John Swire and Sons and Messrs. The Indo-China Steam Navigation Company Limited for exemption in respect of their vessels treding in Indo-China Taters from the requirements of the Merchant Shipping (Wireless Telegraphy) Act 199 dated 10th March 1921.
(2) Letter from the Board to Messrs. John Swire and
dated Sone refusing the application for exemption, 17th August, 1921.
(3) Similar letter to Messrs. The Indo-China Steam
deted 17th August 1921. Navigation Company, Limited,
I am to suggest, for the consideration of Ir. Secretary Churchill, that copies of this correspondence should be forwarded to the Governor of Hong Kong who might be asked to report in, say, six months' time as to the steps which have been taken by the Companies concerned with a view to compliance with the Act.
