Sir,
I am directed by the Custodian to acknowledge the
receipt of your letter of the 21st instant (reference
N. 12572/6360/15) enclosing copies of correspondence
relative to the release of a sum of money belonging to Mr.
B.F.A. Albrechtsen who has opted for Danish nationality.
The Custodian observes that the Governor of Hong-
kong was instructed by the Colonial Office to release Mr.
Albrechtsen's property, which is now stated to be held by
the London Office of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation.
With regard to the last paragraph of your letter,
I am to state that at a recent meeting of the Treaty
Execution Committee, it was decided that only in those cases
where persons resident in German territory, which under the
Treaty of Peace passes to another country who, ipso facto,
acquired Allied or Neutral nationality should have their
property released, and such release should not extend to
persons who, on the 10th January 1920, were German nationals
but who had the right to opt for their nationality.
The practice, as stated in paragraph 3 of the
Colonial Office letter of the 12th instant, is therefore
quite correct.
ne Under Secretary of State,
Foreign Office,
S.7.1.
