Sir:-
I have the honour to forward herewith, for
your information, a copy of a letter which I have
this day forwarded to the Commodore-in-charge,
Hongkong, concerning the recent trouble at Macao.
2.
His Excellency, the Governor of Macao has
requested me to convey to you his keen appreciation
and sincere thanks for your valuable assistance.
3. I would further beg to bring to your notice my
great appreciation of the valuable assistance of
Lieut.Colonel F.Hayley Bell, D.3.0.,Commissioner of
Customs, during this period, which assistance has
been equally appreciated by His Excellency the
Governor of Macao and the Chinese authorities who
were present.
4.
Circumstances arose which necessitated my
giving an instant interpretation of your opinions as
expressed to me before leaving Canton, and I trust
that I have done so correctly.
