In a despatch dated August 8th from His Majesty's Consul General at Canton with reference to recent political
events in that district Mr. Jamieson mentions in terms of
high praise the assistance rendered to nim by Captain R.M.
Hunt, R.M., D.8.0., commanding His Majesty's Ship "Hoth". Owing to the depletion of the Consular Staff at Canton
HT. Jamieson has recently found it impossible to detach an
officer for duty at Tuchow and has had to depend on
Captain Hunt for making necessary communications to the
Chinese authorities and also certain representations with
ragard to British interests at that port. His Majesty's Consul General bears testimony to the efficient manner in
which Captain Hunt has performed these duties and to the
great tact which he displayed.
I have much pleasure in bringing the above facts
to Your Excellency's notice and as requesting His Majesty's Consul General at Cantos to thank Captaia Hunt on my behalf
for his services.
I have the honour, etc.,
...
His Excellency
Vice-Admiral Sir A‚L. Duff, K.C.B..
Commander in Chief,
WEI - HAI – VI.
