Things are now quite calm and on September 26th I
arranged that the Portuguese Consul should go with the British Vice-Consul to call upon the Commissioner of Foreign
Affairs and give him a statement, prepared by me, explaining
the situation and saying that Macao was prepared to allow the League of Nations or some other unbiassed authority to pronounce on the delimitation question. The Commissioner undertook that nothing should be done that would be likely to cause trouble, but at the same time repeated that Chine
Laoao held that the line should be drawn north and south.
Authorities have given a promise of the same nature as that given by the Governor, and that is how the general question stands at the moment. I have strongly advised that the matter of the collision which took place on September 16th should be settled up forthwith, and I do not anticipate
