difficulty, it seemed deplorable that they should
aquabble about wireless concessions when it should
be quite possible by conference and cooperation to avoid
international competition and provide some amalgamation
of interests on an international basis. I hoped
the Chargé d'Affaires would convey to his Government
that this was not the way to settle such matters and
that a better method should be devised.
The American Chargé d'Affaires expressed warmest
agreement and thought if two or three representatives of
his Government and ours met together this question
and others could be easily solved, He felt certain
that this was the opinion of the new administration in
America.
While expressing pleasure at this assurance I said
we had better await arrival of new American Ambassador
a few weeks hence from whom I should doubtless hear
authoritatively what his Government proposed.
