Sir:-
BOARD OF TRADE
(COMMERCIAL RELATIONS AND TREATIES
IMMEDIATE
DEPARTMENT),
GREAT GEORGE STREET,
LONDON, S.W.1.
21st February, 1921.
With reference to your letter of 18th February (F.572/181/10), on the subject of the agreement concluded on 24th May 1919, between the Chinese Government and Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company Limited I am directed by the Board of Trade to state for the information of Earl Curzon of Kedleston that
the observations which they offered in their letter of 2nd February (C.R.T. 4724/20) with respect to the China Electric Company appear to them to apply equally
to the Chinese National Wireless Telegraph Company.
It may be that in this connection questions may arise whether long term agreements of this
character are in the best interests of the Chinese
Government or of the trade of the Treaty Powers,
whether such agreements can be supported consistently with the general policy of His Majesty's Government in regard to China, but so far as Treaty provisions
are concerned the Board are unaware of any which would
preclude the Chinese Government from entering into a
contract to obtain from a company all its supplies

The Under Secretary of State,
Foreign Office,
