Paraphrase of telegram No. 76 to sir . Boking. 254

Cables.
On February 19th Danish Minister called and stated that in a telegram he had received from his Government he was told that Cable Companies had lodged a protest at Peking on the ground that their rights were infringed by American wireless contract. He was told that we knew nothing of any action of the kind on the part of Cable Companies but that it was not unlikely, in the circumstances.
The excessive difficulty of the whole question of wireless and cable competition was mentioned, but we should be prepared
to keep in touch with Danish Government, if the American action gave rise to discussion of position of Cable Companies.
Gist
of protest made by Americans on February 15th, and of grounds
on which it was based, were commmicated to Danish Minister, in
reply to his specific enquiry.
Repeated 2091 to Washington.
