I have the honour to forward for your consideration
the enclosed copy of a letter from Messrs V. R. Loxley and Com-
pany, a British firm of substantial standing in the Colony, re-
garding the Canton-Hankow Railway,
The completion of this line is a matter of the utmost
importance to Hongkong, and I shall be glad to learn whether in
your opinion there would be any objection to the support of this
Governmet being given to a scheme on the lines projected.
A copy of this despatch has been forwarded to Hie
Majesty's Consul-General at Canton,
