With reference to our letter of the 5th July M/10947, and to your reply of the 7th July,No.32822/21, authorising us to proceed with the appointment of a Constable for the Hong Kong Police Force, I have the honour to report that we have now obtained particulars concerning Mr J.Ashe, whom we were instructed by the Colonial Government to consider for the vacancy.

Mr Ashe is about 25 years of age, born in Ireland where he was educated at the Protestant National School,
and has been connected with farm work since 1912.
He has had no experience of police work nor has he seen
service with H.H.Forces.

We have no difficulty in obtaining ex-servi ce men to fill in this type of vacancy and, pending the instructions of the Secretary of State, we do not propose to interview Mr Ashe, or to proceed further
with his application.
