With reference to your despatch No.586 of the

27th December, 1919, regarding the engagement of lir. G. C.

Mosa as Assistant Station Officer in the Hongkong Fire

Brigade, I have the honour to report that, since the

retirement of Mr. A. Lane, which was reported in my despatch

No.286 of the 18th July, 1921, the duties of Assistant

Engineer and Station Officer have been satisfactorily

performed by Mr. Moss, who has taken the Chinese firemen in

hand and considerably increased their efficiency.

2. I propose now, with your approval, to offer Mr. Moss the substantive appointment of Station Officer,

vice Mr. Lane.

3. Should you approve of this appointment, it will be necessary to engage a new Assistant Station Officer as soon as possible, and I should be gled if the Crown Agents for the Colonies may be instructed to take the necessary steps to this end. I forward herewith for their guidance a list of the qualifications required, and the conditions of service and duties of the post, which are the same as those forwarded with my despatch No.203 of the 23rd June, 1919, with the exception that the salary of the post has now been fixed at £320 to £360 by £10 annually.

I have the honour to be, Sir,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
