sir,
JAN 22
GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 3rd December, 1921.

I have the honour to transmit herewith for
instructions copies of documents in support of the claims
of Jacob Friedrich Christian Jebsen and Johann Heinrich
Jessen to the release of their property in the Colony on the
grounds that they have obtained Danish nationality under
the Treaty of Peace.
2. Their property consiste chiefly of the balance of the liquidation of the firm of Jebsen and
Company, the head office of which previous to the war was at Hamburg under the style of Jebsen and Jessen, It is
believed that the chief place of management is in reality still at Hamburg, Levantehaus, Moenckebergstr 7, though nominally the Head Office has been recently removed to Aabenraa to bring it within Danish Territory; while the letterhead of the stationery used by the Canton office still gives the address of Jebsen and Jessen as at Hamburg. The manager of the branch recently opened at Canton is a German national, also is one at least of his assistants. Informat- -ion is in possession of this Government that the real owner of the largest share in the firm was the brother of the well-known German Admiral Dietrich, but no proof is available here. The firm at Canton have only recently succeeded after some difficulty in obtaining recognition from the Danish authorities.

WINSTON CHURCHILL, M.P.,
