I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Confidential despatch of the 6th of July in which you ask for my views as to the desirebility of extending the scope of the additional Royal Instructions, now being prepared, so as to cover the case of existing members of the Executive Council.
2. The existing Unofficial Members of the Executive Council are Sir C.P. Cheter, Mr. E.H. Sharp and Mr. H.E. Pollock. Sir Paul Chater undertook at the time when he ceased to sit in the Legislative Council that he would resign his post on the Executive Council when asked to do so. He is not, to be frank, of much use now but in view of his past services to the Colony I am reluctant to deprive him of an office to the retention of which he attaches importance. However, his health is obviously beginning to fail and I doubt whether he will wish to remain a member of the Council much longer.
Mr. Sharp's health has recently given cause for anxiety and he has been compelled to go to
