one would be glad to take up the matter vigorously and take
a lead in any agitation to attain that end, He was not
personally in favour of the "mui-tsai" system; he merely
wanted the question to be thrashed out, to have the pros and cons carefully weighed; and he asked those present not
to allow themselves to be carried away by the righteous
indignation which they very properly felt over the cases
of ill-treatment that had come to their notice, Such cases
had undoubtedly happened, but they were not many, and at
any rate evils existed in practically all other things.
That was why laws were made, and considered necessary.
asked those present to consider the matter calmly and dispassionately, and give their unbiased opinions on the questions set out in the agenda. He re-iterated the opinion
that until the economic conditions of the whole of China
had improved great harm would result, if the system were
abolished. He considered that the proposal to form a society for the betterment of the conditions of the servant- girls was a step in the right direction.

The questions were disposed of by the meeting in the manner as reported in the "Daily Press". After that, a resolution that a society for the protection of servant- girls be formed, was proposed by Ir. Wong Kwong-tin, seconded by Mr. Tong Shau-shan, and unanimously passed. We will in due course convene a public meeting to appoint officers and discuss details in connection with the working of the society. Meanwhile we are advertising for members.
