With reference to Mr. Severn's despatch
No.157 of the 12th of April reporting the retirement on pension of Mr. W. T. Edvarda, Drainage Surveyor, Public Works Department, I have the honour to state that the Director of Public Works has recommended that the post of Drainage Surveyor in the Building Office should be abolished

should be appointed to deal with the growing volume of

Edwards being distributed among the overseers of the Department.
2. A suitable applicant for this post of
office assistant was found in the person of Mr. John Wattie
who has been provisionally appointed under the terms of the
is contract of which a copy enclosed. In accordance with your
recent instructions I enclose for your consideration a form
of application for Colonial employment filled in by r.
Wattie.
