Mr Beckett,

We have received instructions from the Goverment of Hong

Kong to pay a pension of £150 per annum to r F.Culliford, late Sub-Inspector of Police, but no mention is made of temporary increase

thereon.

We understand that a revised scheme of salaries is in force

in Hong Kong as from 1/1/1920, and presume therefore that no increase

of officers should be paid on pensions/retired on revised salaries,i,e since

1/1/1920.

Can you please say whether this is so?.

In the case of Straite Settlements and Federated Malay

States the increase on Widows' and Orphans' Pensione in respect of

deceased officers who were brought on to a revised scale of salary

is the same as the increase on ordinary pensions calculated on a

revised salary,i.e. 10% from 1.1.1920 only. In at least one case, however, (that of re Tutcher) a Hong Kong Widows' and Orphans'

pension calculated on the basis of a revised salary has been

granted the same increase,1.c. 25% as a Widows and Orphans' pension

calculated on an unrevised salary,
