DEED OF PRESENTATION.
The makers of this deed of presentation are Ng Mui and his wife Chu Shi, of the Chung Mi village, in the Lung Tam section, of
the Shun Tak District.
On account of scarcity of food the husband and the wife have
conferred together and have agreed to allow their own natural
born daughter, Kwan Chiu, who was born at the hour of the "Rat" on the 3rd day of the 9th moon of the San Hoi year, (a), to be
taken by Mak Shi, the middle woman (b) to.....
of..
who has agreed to accept and keep their daughter and has agreed to pay 860 as compensation for milk, ginger and vinegar expenses. (c). On this day, in the presence of the middle woman, the sum
was fully paid to and received in person by Ng Mui and his wife.
This girl is really and truly Ng Hui's own daughter, and has not
been kidnapped not otherwise taken possession of by him. She
has not been betrothed to any person nor has she been pledged to
Ng Mui for debt. (d).
This is a proper transaction openly proposed and openly accepted,
and agreed to by three parties (e), with the consent of two part-
-ies.
After presentation,
shall be at liberty to alter the
name of the girl, (f), and to keep her and employ (g) her until
she becomes of age when
shall be at liberty to marry her to a good family as wife or as concubine without any objection or hindrance. If the mountains are high, or the water is shallow or if there be any decree of Heaven, (h), then neither party shall
be liable.
The presentation is a permanent one.
Words of mouth being
insufficient as proof, this presentation deed is made and handed
to
to be held as evidence.
