of, and to succeed deceased 5th younger brother, Wo Lam, in

performing the rites in the ancestral hall, I, (Yin Lam) am

willing to present to his family the exact sum of 200 Taels in

return, as milk money.

Now Mr. Chan Pong, of the 21st generation descended from the fam- ily of Ancestor Tui Shen, our great grand-uncle, is willing to allow his 3rd son, named Sik Lam, to be adopted as the heir of late 5th younger brother, Wo Lam.

This Sik Lam is one year of age, having been born between eleven (Hour of the Rat) and one a.m. on the 18th day of the 1st moon,

Yan Yan year, (25th February 1902) and has a noble appearance.

We, (Yin Lam, and others) all love him, and all uncles, elder

and younger brothers and nephews of our clan are also pleased

and gratified. All parties having agreed to this arrangement,

we thereupon assemble in the ancestral hall of the two Ancestors,

Kuk Ting and Tui Shan, and make this deed of adoption, and Sik

Lam's natural father and the uncles nephews, elder and younger

brothers of the clan, are requested to subscribe their names

hereto. I, Yin Lam, forthwith weigh in full the 200 Taels milk money, and in the presence of all members in the ancestral hall, hand the same personally to Sik Lam's natural father Mr. Chan

Pong, and his elder brother german Kon Lam, who receive same with

their own hands for their use.

Now as this deed of adoption has been made, to which we all

subscribe our names, and as the milk money has been received in full, Sik Lam, the 3rd son of Chan Pong is not allowed to be Chan Pong's successor again, nor to be the successor of other

persons.

By making this adoption of a relative who is of the same blood, we hope in future the offspring may be prosperous, numerous, and long-lived, and for this we will return thanks for the protection and blessings of our ancestors. Such is our earnest hope. This deed of adoption is now made in two copies, one of which is handed over to Sik Lam, for him to keep, and the other to be

deposited
