the salary paid by the London County Council.

A consideration of the respective duties of the

two posts would indicate that, the foregoing argument apart,

the post of Inspector in the Colony should carry a higher

salary than that of Head Master Queen's College.

Evening duties

Inspector of Night Schools (80 at present). Most of the Schools are in unsavoury quarters of nongkong and Kowloon,& have to be visited at the inconvenient hour of 7.30-9.p.m. Each visit usual- ly occupies the whole of an evening.

Vacations

By Regulations, 3 months every 2 years; in actual practice a Vacation #if and when I can be spared", which occurs rarely. (5 days during the period 1914-1920)

in the case of the Inspector of English Schools than of the
