Sir,
447
Downing Street,
5th March, 1924.
With reference to previous correspondence with
this Department I am directed by Kr. Secretary Thomas
to inform you that it has been decided that the
suggested actuarial investigation into the mortality
experience of the "idows' and Orphans' Pension Schemes
of the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States
will not be undertaken.
2. The Malayan Governments have accordingly agreed to adopt the new pension tables based on compound interest being allowed, which have already been prepared by you and Sir 0. H. Ryan in connection
with the Trinidad and Ceylon schemes. It is now the
intention of the lalayan Governments that all the pensions (whether current or prospective) should be
recalculated in accordance with the new tables as if
these tables had been in operation during the whole
period of the contributions on which the pensions are
based. Pensions which commenced before the 1st
January 1920 will be paid at the revised rate as fren that date; other pensions will be paid at the new rates as from the dates on which they have or may
become payable.
3.
The Halayan Govermenta desire to entrust the
work
