(d) In December 1920 Messrs. Harrisons & Crosfield (Borneo) Limited
on behalf of the Timber Co., wrote letters to various firms contain-
ing the terms upon which the Timber Company are prepared to grant
renewal of licenses in respect of the areas within their concession. A
Copy of this letter is appended below:-
Copy of letter received by various timber Merchants,
Messrs.
SANDAKAN.
Dear Sirs,
Sandakan, 19th December, 1920.
2. Royalty ou timber felled or collected will be levied at the rate
of seven cents per cubic foot irrespective of species.
3. All timber felled or collected shall be measured on the quarter
girth in accordance with Hoppus' Measurement Tables No. 2.
4. A minimum royalty, payable in advance, of an amount to be
fixed in respect of each license issued.
5. A deposit of Dollars Five hundred ($500.00) to be made by each Company or person obtaining a license, such deposit to be subject to forfeiture in the event of existing law or terais of license being disregarded.
6. A Statement to be submitted monthly showing the various timber cut or collected. Statements to be submitted within seven days after the end of each month, and Royalty due to be paid within seven days after application for same has been made.
7. This Company to have the right of access at all reasonable times to Licensees books of account so far as may be necessary for checking such monthly statements, and the right of inspect- ing Timber Workings.
8. Licenses will be issued for a period of one year, and will be
subject to revision at the end of that period.
Please inform us as early as possible as to the licenses which you desire to be renewed, at the same time indicating the locality, boundaries, or description of the land on which you desire to operate.
