125. Governors are to furnish every Officer proceeding on leave of absmce with a duplicate of the Certificate above mentioned; and an absent Officer must produce such certi ficate to the Crown Agents for the Colonies in order to receive his salary. A third copy of the Certificate should be transmitted by the Colonial Government direct to the Crown Agents for the Colonies when the Officer's salary is to be paid through them, with instructions to issue the salary accordingly, as it becomes due.

130. On arriving in his country, the Officer on leave must report his arrival by letter to the Colonial Office mentioning the place of his residence, and he must similarly notify any subsequent change of residence. Treasurers and Auditors of Colonies whose accounts are sub- ject to Imperial audit, should also send their addresses to the Comptroller and Auditor General,

Officers in the Service of the Government must not under pain of serious con- sequences, allow themselves to be interviewed on leaving or arriving in England, or give their opinions on debateable questions of public policy, or on matters affecting the defence and military resources of British Possessions.

EXTRACT FROM GOVERNOR'S DESPATCH NO. 493.

OF 28TH OCTOBER 1908,

The Crown Agents have authority to pay salary up to and including the day preceding the date of sailing, on production of a life certificate dated not more than one week before that day, or on personal application within the same limit of time.

FEBRUARY, 1904.

Officers before returning from leave of absence should notify to the Crown Agents the date up to which they intend to draw salary in England so that a "last pay Certificate" may be prepared and forwarded to the Colony as without it, payment of salary in the Colony on the return of Officer may be delayed.
