respects you will be subject to the Colonial Regulations in force for the time being and also to the General Orders issued from time to time by the Government of Hong Kong. A copy of the latest edition of the Colonial Regulations is enclosed. Appointment is under the Colonial Government and your emoluments will be paid solely from the funds of the Colony.
If you are prepared to accept the appointment, you should present yourself to one of the Medical Advisers to this Department, whose names are given on the accompanying letter, for the purpose of being medically examined. The letter is to be left with him; and you will be required to pay him a fee of one guinea. He will send his report direct to this Department.
If finally selected for appointment, you will be provided with free passage to Hong Kong (either by mail or first-class steamer) for yourself. On your signing an agreement to remain in the service of the Colony for a term of three years from the date of your arrival, or for such shorter term as may be approved by the Governor in the event of your leaving the service within three years of your arrival for other than physical or mental infirmity, you will receive half salary from the date of embarkation and full salary from that of your arrival in Hong Kong.
