I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter and state that I would be willing to accept the vacancy in Hong Kong if a substantial increase in salary for that appointment is granted, or permission is granted to engage in private practice. At present I am on the point of commencing a six months' course of post-graduate work at London University, but no doubt, this could be postponed.
I wish to point out that my present salary is £600. When actually serving in the colony, I understand that the dollar is reckoned in shillings.
