I ventured with the utmost respect to observe that a Bill is before Parliament increasing Pensions of Civil servants retired before the war, and recently I wrote to its promoter Sir Worthington Evans enquiring whether the scheme included Civil servants retired from Crown Colonies.

The reply was that it does not, & that the question is one for the Colonial Office, and the Colonial Government concerned.

I myself have been for many years retired from the office of Colonial Chaplain of Hongkong, with a pension which before the war was adequate, but which is utterly insufficient at this time, and much alarmed about the future as I am close on 74 years of age. My health forbids my supplementing the pension by any daily toil and my state of health precludes my seeking any May...

I respectfully inquire whether anything is likely to be done for Colonial Civil Servants corresponding to the effort made for others?
