Sir,
Te beg to refer to your letter of 23rd ultimo on receipt of which we telegraphed, under date of 24th September, to our Hongkong Office as follows:-
"Referring to your wire of 21st Clearing Office inform "us that Hongkong Controller in accordance with their "instructions of 30th August will fix rates of con-
version into Hongkong currency of Yen Rupees Ticals Straits Dollars Francs Gold Dollars"

A telegram has this morning reached us from our office in Hongkong dated 5th instant which translates:-
"Re your wire September 24th Hongkong Controller has "not received yet instructions from London Clearing "office to fix conversion rate referred to please
arrange.

As the Hongkong Controller has already fixed several rates of conversion some of which were detailed in our letter to you of 22nd ultimo, the reason for this requiring fresh instructions from you in regard to other currencies is not clear to us.
May we request that the Hongkong Controller be again instructed by cable to fix the rates of conversion that may be required between Hongkong Currency and any other Currency; the rates so far mentioned by us may not necessarily represent all the currencies coming in question.
