My Lord,
The attention of my Committee has been called to the existence of child slavery in the Colony of Hong Kong, and to the statement that Chinese children are bought and sold for the purpose of their so-called "adoption" as domestic servants in Chinese
households. My Committee has observed the statements of the Under-
Secretary of State in the House of Commons on the 1st of March
and the 26th of April laet, that this matter was one which ought
to be cleared up, and that he was making enquiries from the
Governor of Hong Kong which were being accelerated.
I beg, on behalf of my Committee, to ask whether the Report
received from the Governor of Hong Kong is being published, and if
not, whether the Committee may be allowed to see a copy of such
Report, and may be informed of any steps which are being taken to
deal with the alleged abuses.
