I am directed by the Controls 26 AUG 201t a copy of a letter received from the Manager of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Panking Corporation Limited, on the subject of fixing the rate of exchange for the conversion of other currencies into that in use in Hong Yong. It is essential for the purpose of the claims which the ong Fong and Shanghai Bank have against German nationals that the in- formation required should be obtained as soon as possible, and, as The rates required must be those which will be recognised by the local Controller in connection with such claime, it is thought at that official is in the boat position to decide, the matter.
The Controller regards the matter as urgent and *** soprogarty be glad if the Hong Kong Local Controller can be instructed by telegraph to decide upon the rates he is prepared to accept and to advise the Hong Kong Office of the Bank accordingly.
