with reference to your letter dated 8th May 1930 (Ref. 22088/20)
relative to a claim for reparation for losses sustained
during the war, I am directed by the Managing Board of
the above Service to inform you that the claims mentioned
in the Notice which was published by the Reparation
Commission on April 15th 1920 referring to the application
of Paragraph 20 of Annex II of Part VIII of the Treaty of
Versailles, are not connected in any way with losses by
Enemy action. The Notice relates solely to claims under the
above paragraph by persons or corporations who consider they
have legal or equitable interests in individual vessels
deliverable by the German Government under the Treaty of
Versailles,
I am to add that any question relating to losses
incurred in Mercantile shipping owing to the war, is a
matter for the Government of the country under whose flag
the lost vessel was at the time of loss.
Communications on such questions should not be addressed
to the Maritime Service nor to the Reparation Commission.
