With reference to my despatch No. 587 of the 19th ultimo covering copy of the letter which I addressed to the Secretary of the Anti-Opium Association of Feking re- garding the measures being taken by His Majesty's Govern- ment in connection with the opium traffic in accordance with the instructions contained in Your Lordship's despatch No. 267 of May 28th, I have now the honour to forward copy of the Association's reply dated the
31st ultimo.
I am transmitting copies of this correspondence to the Governments of India, Hongkong, and the Straits Bettlements, with an offer to communicate to the Associa» tion any information on the points raised in their letter which it may be desired to place at their disposal.
