Dividends on Hongkong & Shanghai Bank

Enemy-owned Shares,

16 approached the Public Trustse in our letter of 5th January

last with regard to payments made by our Hamburg Office during the

war in respect of dividends on the shares of this Bank, Some of the

shareholders who received these payments were on the Hongkong and

Shanghai Registers. of the Bank, and in there cases the relative divi-

dends had been paid over ly our Offices there to the respective Cus-

todians of Enemy Property.

te forwarded our Hongkong and Shanghai Offices statements

of these payments prepared in the same form as those submitted

to the Fublic Trustee with our letter to him of 5th January last.

From a cable message just received from our Hongkong Office

we learn that no refund of dividends has yet been effected, either

in Hongkong or Shanghai, but that the Hongkong Custodian has tele-

graphed to the Authorities in London for instructions to enable him

to adopt the same procedure as that of the Public Trustee, London,

As you are amare, repayment of dividends to the extent of

229,454. 5. 7d. was made to us by the Public Trustee, London on the

10th May last, Ref. EH/TGK No. 1622, acting under your authority.

We should esteem it a favour if it could be arranged for a
