No.103 of February 26th.
In the matter of Exploitation of coal and iron. deposits in Kwang tung, the co-operation of British interests with
Chinese, is very much to be desired.
Mr. Moore Bennet wrote to Messrs Bewick Moreing and heard from them that, provided His Majesty's Government gave the necessary support, they would be prepared to follow the matter up.
When the extent of the progress, if any, which has been made by the other syndicate is known, also whether any local option has been obtained by either or both groups; the extent and nature of the support to be given to Messrs Bewick Moreing or any other firms can be decided.
It is very desirable that you should continue to co-operate with the Governor of Hong Kong in the further consideration
of this matter.
