The German Chargé d'Affaires has the honour to
inform the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs
that in a letter addressed to the Foreign office at Berlin and communicated to this Embassy the
commercial house of Carlowitz and Company of Hamburg, which has branch establishments in China and Japan,
expresses the request that the necessary permission
may be obtained for its employees repatriated from Canton to land at Hong Kong on the return journey.
The said firm had applied first to the British
Consulate-General at Hamburg, but was referred here.
Herr von Schubert begs that he may kindly be
informed whether the necessary permission can be
granted to land at Hong Kong for the journey to
Canton and the island of shameen where the foreign
settlement is.
