RES

Pr.. MAR 0!

I am directed by Earl Curzon of Kedleston to state that

a request has been received from the Peruvian Government for

permission to purchase four thousand tons of first grade rice,

wherever obtainable, in two or four lots.

In making this request the Peruvian Minister adds that

if shipment be arranged from Hong Kong the Peruvian

Government will arrange direct "for the necessary sanitation

requisites" (sic) for shipment on Japanese steamers.

The Peruvian Minister states that rice is a staple

article of food in Peru and that his Government attach great

importance to obtaining the above supplies.

Lord Curzon would be glad to know what answer should be

returned to the Peruvian Minister.

A similar letter has been addressed to the India Office

and Ministry of Food.

I am,

sir

te Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,

Your most obedient,

humble Servant,

7.2.C-Tolleg
