Sir:-

Now that the war is over, the Guild feel that it is opportune once again to address themselves to you respecting the urgent necessity of a light or lights on the Paracels Reefs as an aid to navigation.

A member of the Guild, writing from Australia, refers us to the following paragraph which recently appeared in the "Argus", Melbourne:-

"Lloyd's announce that the British steamer "Lien Shing" (1,659 tons) while bound from Hong Kong to Saigon was wrecked on the Paracels islets off the coast of Cochin China and that 497 native passengers

were drowned"

The following appeared in the columns of the "Times" of the 18th May 1915:-

"As much as 60 per cent was yesterday quoted for reinsurance on the Dutch liner "Tjimahi", ashore on the North Reef, Paracel Islands, China Sea, in view of the evil reputation these islands have earned."
