sir,
With reference to your letter 55313/20 of the
20th December, concerning the temporary increase of
Widows and Orphans Pensions authorised by the Government
of Hong Kong, I have the honour to enclose for the
information of the Secretary of State a copy of a telegram
which we have received from the Government of of Hong
Kong.
It would appear that, in addition to Mrs Tutcher
and Mrs Holan who are mentioned in the telegram, re
Parkinson and Mrs Badeley should also have the option of
being paid their dollar pensions at the fixed rate of 3/-
plus an increase of 25% or at the current rate without
increase. In view of the fact that the increase dates
from 1st January, 1919, however, I have to ask whether the
provision as regards the adoption of current rates should
be made retrospective to that date also in the cases
mentioned above.
Pending the receipt of the Secretary of State's
reply we will continue to pay the pensions concerned on the
basis on which they are at present being issued.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your obedient servant,
Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
