I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter No.3456/1916 dated 16 th November in connection with the replacing of the "Burrumbeet".
The Committee is in agreement with the Government that it is essential in the interests of the Colony that coal at a reasonable price should be available and it is suggested that the steamer "Wollowra" be requisitioned to take the place of the "Burrumbeet", since the "Wollowra" is declared unsuitable for Admiralty requirements and moreover is not included in the liner requisiti on scheme.
As regards management of the vessel it appears suitable to
place her in the hands of the Kailan Administration to run
similarly to the "Burrumbeet" under guidance of the
Admiralty Authorities, the rate of hire for Owners and rate
of payment by the Kailan Administration to be a matter for
arrangement, It is understood that the "Burrumbeet" Was
chartered on favourable terme as compared with present
rates a point which should have consideration.
I enclose for your information the Minutes of
a meeting held by the Committee on the 20th November dealing
with the subjects dealt with in your letters to that date.
