Referring to your letter of the 8th November,
I am directed to forward a copy of a letter from the
Commodore regarding the replacing of the S. 8. "Burrumbeet"
by other tonnage.
2.
This Government considers it essential in
the interests of the Colony generally that coal at a reason-
able price should be available, and it is of the opinion
that a ship should be requisitioned to bring the Kailan
Mining Administration'a coal to the Colony.
3.
If your Committee concurs in this view I am
to request that they will be so good as to advise as to the
reply to be sent to the Commodore, and as to the steps to
be taken in the matter of the running of such ship as may
be requisitioned, This Government has of course no machin-
ery for running a ship.
