No.126/1920.

C

Sir,

392

Government House,

Hongkong, 7th July, 1920.

With reference to Sir Beilby Alston's letter No.4236/20 of the 7th June, 1920, on the subject of alleged Chinese activities in the United States of Americs directed against British rule in this Colony, I have the honour to inform you that there appears to be no reason whatever for imagining that any active movement of the kind suggested is contemplated against this Government. Should such a move- ment exist this Goverment is confident that it would meet with little sympathy from the inhabitants of this Colony and that full information would be forthcoming concerning it.

This Government is not disposed, therefore,

to attach any importance to the statements of Mr. H. L. Cary of Chicago.

I have, etc.
